Frequently Asked Questions

Will Vets Choice be adding new items?

Yes! We always are continually doing something new, so keep checking our website or with you local Health Extension retailer.

Does Vets Choice offer free samples so that my pet can try it before I buy a larger bag?

While we do not have samples to send out from our corporate office, these can be obtained from a local retailer. You can use the store locator on our home page to enter your zip code and get a list of the stores in your area.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

I have been feeding Health Extension to my dog for years, but the last bag that I opened looked darker (or lighter) then before. Should I be concerned about feeding this to my dog?

Health Extension products are all-natural. Our foods have no added artificial colors or flavors. Colors and dyes are used to mask the natural colors which give a consistent color. We expect to see slight variation from batch to batch. This is simply a reflection of the natural ingredients we use and in no way affects the quality of the food.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are made in the U.S.A.

What is the percentage of meat in the Meaty Mix Chicken & Beef canned formulas?

Made exclusively with meat, each can contains more than 95% of Chicken and Beef, respectively.

Where are Health Extension products sold in my area?

Please use the store locator on our Where to Buy page to input your zipcode to locate a retailer nearest you.

Why do you use garlic?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

What is the difference between "chicken" meal and "chicken by-product" meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken "parts" including heads, feet and intestines.
